PITTSBURGH DYNAMO YOUTH SOCCER

PITTSBURGH DYNAMO YOUTH SOCCER

Pittsburgh Dynamo Youth Soccer is pleased to sponsor recreational soccer clinics, camps, and pickup games for women age 30+ who would like to learn how to play soccer or improve their soccer skills. We welcome nonbinary athletes who are comfortable in that environment.

About DFC

We encourage more women to get involved in youth soccer as coaches and referees, and even just kicking a ball around. If you're over 30 and have little or no adult soccer experience, then Dynamoms Football Club (DFC) may be for you! Absolute beginners are welcome and so are more experienced players who are interested in playing with and supporting beginners. You don't have to be a mom. Come learn how to play soccer safely, get some exercise, and have fun!

Founded in Fall 2013 by moms whose kids played Dynamo Youth Soccer, DFC has run fall and spring outdoor clinics and (sometimes) winter indoor clinics almost every year since. Over time we expanded our activities as our group has grown. We now have women in their 30s, many in their 40s and 50s, and some in their 60s and 70s. We currently offer pickup games multiple times each week, occasional full-field games against ourselves and other local women's teams, family soccer events, and an adult overnight soccer camp. We also participate as a group in local activities such as marching in the Pittsburgh Pride parade and attending Pittsburgh Riveters games.

DFC was featured in a July 2021,  CMU Piper article, a  May 21, 2014 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article and in a Fall 2014 Shady Ave magazine article. We also are the inspiration for a women's recreational soccer club in the steamy romance novel Beautiful Game  written by one of our members! Read more about our club history.

We do not want financial need to be an obstacle to playing soccer! If you are in need of a scholarship to participate in our activities, please reach out to [email protected]

DFC guidelines

You are welcome to play with us if you are:

  • Age 30+
  • A woman or non-binary athlete comfortable in our environment
  • Happy to play with beginners, prioritize the safety of all players, and prioritize sharing the ball with everyone over scoring

There is no slide-tackling or aggressive play allowed; players should avoid direct contact with others and defend by containing rather than tackling the ball. You may be asked to leave the game if you play in a manner that endangers others.

What we offer: Pickup soccer, soccer clinics, and camp

DFC Pickup Soccer

Our pickup games are friendly and fun, and we do our best to keep everyone injury free. We tend to rotate positions, keep our teams balanced, and don't keep score. Our volunteer "pickup artists" bring pinnies, setup the field, and help get us organized. They are in charge of the pickup games so please follow their instructions.

How do I join? Please complete our online form to request to be added to our email list, provide your emergency contact info, etc. You will also need to pay a pickup fee at your first or second game. If you show up at one of our games without having previously signed up we will ask you to fill out the form on your phone before you play.

When?
Usually Monday or Wednesday evenings and sometimes Saturday mornings or afternoons. Check out our calendar of upcoming DFC games and events.

Where? Usually on the Schenley Park Oval turf (1 Overlook Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15217), sometimes other fields in the East End

Pickup fee: $35 per season cash or check to be collected by our "pickup artists" at pickup (collection in April and September, $17 if you join in July-August or January-March). New players are invited to come check us out once before payment. Players registering for our clinics can pay their pickup fee by credit card with their clinic registration. You will receive a wristband after you've paid. We change the color every season. Note; this fee covers the cost of field permits.

What if the weather is bad? We love playing soccer, even when its snowing (yes we have been known to shovel the field)! But we can't play when there is lightning in the area and we often cancel when there is a major downpour and/or frigid or icy conditions. Dress appropriately for the weather and watch your email for last-minute cancellations sent to the pickup email list.

DFC Soccer Camp

Soccer Camp 11.0
April 24-26, 2026
Registration will open in February

DFC footy fun awaits with spring soccer sleep away camp for grownups! We head back to gorgeous Camp Soles, a family-run camp in Rockwood, PA (near Seven Springs/Somerset) approximately 75 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.

Friday and Saturday, we play soccer all day and then relax around the fire after sundown (based on previous experience, fireside dance parties are highly likely, as are euchre tournaments for those who play). Sunday, we have breakfast and more play and head home by 1 p.m. after helping ourselves to leftovers for lunch.

As a special bonus, Camp Soles allows us to arrive at 6pm Thursday evening to get settled into our bunks and well rested ahead of camp activities. This is an optional perk for those able to make it early.

Our hosts also provide optional camp activities including archery, pickleball, kayaking and a climbing wall/ropes course. We stay in modern cabins that have heat, electricity, bunk beds and indoor showers/bathrooms either in the cabin or a few steps away. As of this writing, our group has the entire camp to ourselves once again.

Amenities include a large, beautiful field, an historic lodge/mess hall, a gorgeous lake, hiking trails, paddleboards and canoes, and a covered outdoor area. If technology cooperates, we will have a projector and screen perfect for DFC entertainment. We may also have our educational and fun Talk/Learn session featuring the wisdom and wit of our campers (info to follow after you register).

Please invite non-footy friends who would enjoy sitting by the lake during the day and then hanging around the fire at night. DFC soccer camp centers women but welcomes nonbinary athletes who are comfortable with that environment.

The cost last fall was $360 including all meals, coaching fees and accommodations (spring rates coming soon including a reduced rate for those who register early, scholarships also available).

DFC Soccer Clinics

Spring clinics start in April, registration will open in February

Five female coaches will lead sessions covering the basics of soccer, game strategy and more. Each clinic will end with a coached scrimmage to practice what we learn. Both beginners and intermediate players are welcome!

Registration is $100, and the 10 sessions are at the Schenley Oval turf field:
Saturdays (dates coming soon)
Time 4:00 - 5:30pm
*There will be no clinic April 25 due to soccer camp.

Participants should wear shin guards with soccer socks, athletic shoes or soccer cleats, and comfortable clothes. Any comfortable athletic shoes will do, but many of our members prefer turf cleats--no metal spikes. Please do not wear any jewelry. Bring water and a size 5 soccer ball.
